Class Descriptions:

Scriptorium The Scriptorium will be open for scribal activities throughout the day in the main hall. Come and work on all your things scribal with the talented Scribes of Meridies!!

History of Crossbow Guilds History of the crossbow guilds.

Make a Mini 6 Panel Chest   Make your own miniature Six-Panel Chest!  This design was in use for most of the SCA’s time period, and the principles for making this small one apply equally to a full size chest. This class is aimed at novices to woodworking.

New World Beasts – Animal Encounter   Come meet some of the magnificent beasts that have inspired artists for thousands of years! Some have powerful jaws and strong swinging tails; some slither silently through the grass, while others swim quickly through the water. These animal ambassadors are here to inspire you to learn more about the creatures who make up our world, recognize the importance of the environment in which they live, and better understand our relationship to the environment and the creatures around us.
Please remember that live animals will be present, and for their comfort, please follow directions given to you by their handlers. It is important to follow the rules regarding their handling for both the animal’s safety and yours.

Build a Beast  Spin the Wheel of Nature and build your own beast! All animals exhibit adaptations to their environment; let chance guide you as you create your own beast and explain the environment in which it might live. This creative learning activity is geared towards children; however, it can be fun for all ages. If you wish, bring your beast to the New World Bestiary class/activity, and transform it into your bestiary.

Viking Wire Weaving  Learn how to make Viking wire weaving. This is a hands-on class.

Drop Spindle Class  Teaching the traditional art of spinning; will show how, discuss how it works, and different ways of spinning around the world; supplies provided, vegan options available.

New World Bestiary  This is both a class and a creative activity. There will be a brief class on the history of the art of bestiary followed by a hands-on crafting activity. This is a FREE crafting activity for all ages. There will be many pre-drawn bestiaries for those who do not draw well, or you can create your own. Paper, paint, brushes, pens, markers, and crayons will be provided. All ages are welcome!

Leather Making  Basic tooling on leather. This is a demo/learn how, not a make and take.

Repelling the Darkness!  The care and management of Oil Lamps throughout history. Make and Take to use immediately. Based on Master Bedwyn’s research with additional information.
